What's Cat5e Cable?

- Sep 05, 2018-

The cat5e network cable is 4 pairs twisted cable. Compared with the Cat5 cable, Cat5E cable has less attenuation and stronger anti-interference ability when transmitting signals. Generally, in a 100M network, the degree of interference of user equipment by only 1/4 of the Cat5 cable, which is the ideal solution for network applications.

Cat5e cable is classified to unshielded twisted pair (UTP: Unshielded Twisted Pair) and shielded twisted pair, the PVC jacket is for indoor using, and the PE jacket is for outdoor using.

Cat5e cable is an upgraded version of the Cat5 cable. Many performance parameters, such as NEXT, Attenuation-to-crosstalk Ratio and Return Loss, have been improved, but its transmission bandwidth is still 100MHz.

The color for 4-pair stranded wire of Cat5e cable is the same as the Cat5 cable, the colors are white orange/ orange, white green/green, white blue/blue and white Brown/ brown. The diameter of the bare copper wire is 0.51mm (wire gauge is 24AWG), the insulated wire diameter is 0.92mm, and the UTP cable diameter is 5.0mm (OD).

Cat5e cables are typically only used in 100 Mb/s Fast Ethernet for desktop switch-to-computer connectivity. Cat5e cables can also provide transmission bandwidths of up to 1000 Mb/s but often rely on the support of expensive special equipment.
